Chapter 27: Ex-Girlfriend Yao Manman
"1,000 each? Why are you being so generous?"
Xia Qianqian clicked on the red envelope and saw that it really contained 1,000.
"I have to pay my respects first, so everyone can recognize me as their Vice President."
"Who exactly do I oversee? Could you pull all my subordinates into a group chat as well?" Zheng Qian asked.
"Even without the red envelopes, they would still recognize you as the Vice President. It's completely unnecessary," Xia Qianqian explained. "This is your office. Is there anything you're not satisfied with?"
Zheng Qian entered and looked around.
The office was decorated in a fresh and elegant style. First, there was a yellow rosewood desk, on which sat an Apple all-in-one computer. The desk was adorned with a miniature rockery, a small water feature, and a very thoughtful cactus.
The bookcase, sofa, and coffee table behind were also chosen with great care.
"Did you decorate this?" Zheng Qian asked.
"Yes. If there's anything you'd like to change, just let me know."
"No need to change anything. It's quite good as it is."
Xia Qianqian's ability to design and organize was quite impressive, which also indirectly showed that she was very capable.
Zheng Qian sat on the soft, comfortable executive chair and instinctively propped his feet up on the desk.
This used to be the seat only the company boss could sit in, but now, he was the one occupying it.
A strange, indescribable feeling welled up inside Zheng Qian.
So, does this mean he is now a successful person?
"By the way, the company can provide you with a company car. The budget is 300,000. Please let me know which model you would like to choose."
300,000? What kind of car can you get for that? Something for business?
When Zheng Qian came upstairs, he had glanced at the parking lot; it was filled with Mercedes and BMWs.
"What kind of cars do President Chen and President Liu drive?"
"President Chen drives a black Mercedes S-Class, and President Liu drives a Porsche Cayenne."
The Mercedes S-Class and the Cayenne were definitely worth more than 300,000. If their budgets were so high, why was he only given 300,000?
"The thing is, neither President Chen nor President Liu used the company's budget. Those are their personal vehicles," Xia Qianqian explained to Zheng Qian.
Once she put it that way, Zheng Qian understood.
Since that was the case, he certainly couldn't use the company's budget either.
"Then, what kind of car do you think suits me?" Zheng Qian asked her.
Xia Qianqian fell silent.
"It's fine, just say it. I won't blame you."
"I think you, President Zheng, are suited to drive a Santana."
Damn!
It wasn't that Zheng Qian was biased against the Santana.
The main point was, he was now worth over a hundred million—was he only fit to drive a Santana?
Even though Xia Qianqian didn't know he was a multimillionaire, with his status as a Vice President, he should at least be driving an Audi, right?
"President Zheng, the Santana is great. It's as low-key as you are. Others will think you're just a regular employee, while in reality, you're the Vice President—you can play the pig to eat the tiger." For once, Xia Qianqian was joking with him.
"Go on, go on. I’m not driving a Santana."
Whenever Zheng Qian thought of the Santana, he was reminded of the days when he was being "ground into the dirt" by his driving instructor.
At the very least, he needed something a notch higher than what Liu Shiqi drove.
What car was a notch higher than a Cayenne?
Zheng Qian thought about it for a while.
Maybe he should just buy a Rolls-Royce.
He was a Vice President now; was driving a Santana appropriate? He definitely needed to maintain his image.
"Let's talk about this again tomorrow. How many people are directly under my management?"
"Six. One of them took leave today and isn't in the office."
Zheng Qian felt a bit depressed. He was a Vice President, and he only had six people under him?
Of course, he could manage other employees too, but having six people directly under him wasn't actually that few.
Zheng Qian had Xia Qianqian create a small group chat and sent out another round of red envelopes, this time 2,000 each.
He returned to the main page and saw many people adding him as a friend; he accepted them one by one.
Sending red envelopes didn't count toward his cashback, but fortunately, his subordinates were all female employees, so he just needed to treat them to a meal in the evening.
Zheng Qian sent a message to the small group: "Dinner at 8:00 PM at Wangyue Pavilion, on me."
Deng Shuxin: "President Zheng is so generous!"
He Yanyan: "President Zheng, I just saw you! You're so handsome!"
Hao Ruxue: "That's for sure! Our President Zheng is the visual centerpiece of our company."
Chang Mengmeng: "Indeed, indeed!"
Zhong Xiaoyao: "President Zheng, I love you!!"
There were too many names, and Zheng Qian couldn't remember them all at once.
But the next message in the group made Zheng Qian remember one person instantly.
The message read: "President Zheng, I have a stomachache today and took leave from the company. I might not be able to make it. I'm so sorry, and thank you for the red envelope."
He looked at the name on the avatar: Yao Manman!
Yao Manman???
Zheng Qian immediately took his feet off the desk and clicked on Yao Manman's Moments to look, but since they weren't friends, he couldn't see anything.
Was it his ex-girlfriend, Yao Manman?
The avatar was different, and the bio was different too.
There were just too many people named Yao Manman.
Could it just be a coincidence?
It shouldn't be that coincidental, right? Could it really be the ex-girlfriend who cheated on him, whom he caught red-handed, and who showed no remorse?
"Do you have the file on this Yao Manman? Bring it over for me to see," Zheng Qian mentioned.
Xia Qianqian scoffed coldly.
Just as expected.
Zheng Qian had no good intentions.
He had just become the Vice President, and he was already starting to hit on his own subordinates.
"President Zheng, let me remind you: this Yao Manman is quite attractive, but as for the person herself, I'd rather not comment."
Zheng Qian: "???"
He asked her to bring a file, and look what she thought of him.
Did she think he wanted to hit on Yao Manman?
"It's not what you think. I just want to take a look; I think I know this Yao Manman." Zheng Qian didn't say she had the same name as his ex-girlfriend, otherwise, Xia Qianqian would think he was even more of a scumbag—after all, scumbags always used that line when hitting on women.
"It's fine, you don't need to explain to me. I was just giving a friendly warning. I’ll go get the file for you." Xia Qianqian knew her place.
She was just a secretary; what Zheng Qian wanted to do was none of her business.
Soon, a file on Yao Manman was presented before Zheng Qian.
The photo was identical to his ex-girlfriend.
Or rather, this was damn well his ex-girlfriend, Yao Manman!
"Tsk tsk, is it really that coincidental?" Zheng Qian smacked his lips involuntarily.
"President Zheng, do you know her?" Xia Qianqian asked curiously.
"Yes, I do. An acquaintance."
After that incident, Zheng Qian and Yao Manman had deleted each other from WeChat. Yao Manman had changed her avatar, username, and bio. If not for the nickname in the group, he really wouldn't have recognized her.
"Oh, I see. Then you should know that she has a boyfriend, right?"
"You mean..."
"Chang Rui."
Chang Rui, Yao Manman. Zheng Qian was now 10,000% certain that it was that pair of scumbags.
Zheng Qian struggled to keep his expression neutral.
"Chang Rui's father, Chang Dashan, is in the timber business and is also a major client our company is currently negotiating with."
"If you are interested in Yao Manman, I don't think it will be easy to succeed. Of course, if you use the status of Vice President, I believe you could still win her over."
